Welcome back to Behind the Build! In this blog series, we take you into the fascinating world of our botanical building sets. We explore our favourite brick flowers one by one: from their symbolic meaning to the build process and the best styling tips for your interior.
In our previous post, we looked at the delicate Pink Daisy. Today, we are turning up the volume with its larger, bolder, and incredibly striking cousin: the Pink Gerbera Daisy. Known for its massive, vibrant flower heads and thick stems, the Gerbera is a florist favourite that demands attention and instantly brightens any space.
The Inspiration: Cheerfulness, Grace, and Admiration Originating from South Africa, Gerbera daisies are celebrated worldwide for their brilliantly intense colours and classic, perfectly radiating shape. While all daisies generally symbolise innocence and purity, the Gerbera is specifically known as the ultimate symbol of cheerfulness and loyal love.
The specific choice of a bright pink hue adds a layer of grace, admiration, and sweetness. Gifting a brick-built Pink Gerbera Daisy is a wonderful way to express gratitude, say "get well soon," or simply inject a massive dose of positive energy into someone's home office or living room.
The Build Experience: The Double-Layered Bloom If you enjoyed building the standard Pink Daisy, you will love the Gerbera. Looking at the instruction manual, the design perfectly captures the thick, lush nature of a real Gerbera by using a highly satisfying, multi-layered construction technique. Here is what you can expect:
-
The Thick Stem & Textured Leaves: Gerberas are known for their strong stems. You start by building a sturdy green base and attaching the leaves. Unlike simpler flowers, these broad leaves are built by layering multiple smaller plates onto a central axis, giving them a beautiful, organic texture.
-
The First Petal Ring: To create that signature oversized bloom, you don't just build one ring of petals—you build two! You start by constructing eight large, sweeping pink petal sub-assemblies and attaching them to the central hub to form the wide base of the flower.
-
The Intricate Dark Core: A defining feature of the Gerbera is its large, textured central disc. You build this core using specific, tightly packed pieces in contrasting dark colours, perfectly mimicking the complex cluster of tiny florets found in nature.
-
The Second Petal Ring: To give the flower its incredible volume and depth, you build another eight pink petal sub-assemblies. These are layered slightly above and offset from the first ring, resulting in a magnificently full, 3D bloom that looks stunning from every angle.
Mix & Match: Styling Your Pink Gerbera Daisy Because of its large, flat, and vibrant flower head, the Pink Gerbera Daisy is a quintessential "Primary Flower." It acts as a powerful focal point in any vase.
Based on our design guidelines, here are some spectacular, colour-coordinated ways to style it from the BuildABouquet collection:
-
The Joyful Burst: For an arrangement bursting with pure sunshine, pair the Pink Gerbera Daisy with the Sunflower. The combination of bold pink and vibrant yellow is a classic floristry pairing that screams summer and happiness.
-
The Pastel Harmony: Create a softer, more romantic bouquet by pairing it with the tall, calming spikes of the Lavender. The dense, round head of the Gerbera contrasts beautifully with the slender, textured purple stems.
-
The Fresh & Crisp Display: Combine it with the classic White Daisy or Queen Anne's Lace. The clean white filler flowers allow the bold pink of the Gerbera to completely steal the show without overwhelming the eye.
-
A Textural Edge: Frame the large pink petals with a stem of Hypericum Berries. The bushy green foliage and the clusters of small red berries add incredible depth and a professional, freshly-foraged touch to the display.
