Welcome back to Behind the Build! In this blog series, we take you into the world of our botanical building sets. We explore our favorite brick flowers: from their symbolic meaning to the build experience and the best styling tips for your interior.
In this third edition, we are turning up the heat with a stunning focal flower: the Orange Rose. With its rich, fiery color and elegant overlapping petals, it brings an instant touch of warmth and sophistication to any room.
The Inspiration: Enthusiasm, Energy, and Passion While red roses are universally known for romantic love, and yellow roses symbolize friendship, the orange rose sits beautifully right in between.
Symbolically, the orange rose represents enthusiasm, energy, fascination, and desire. It is the perfect flower to celebrate a new venture, a major achievement, or the exciting early days of a passionate romance. Giving an Orange Rose botanical building set is a unique, lasting way to say, "I am proud of you" or "I am captivated by you."
The Build Experience: Double the Blooming Beauty Building this set is incredibly rewarding because it features a wonderful surprise: you are actually building a dynamic, branching stem that holds two separate roses! Here is what you can expect from the building process:
- The Branching Stem: You start by constructing a sturdy main stem using green interlocking pins. Using clever angled connectors, you create a natural-looking offshoot branch to hold the second rose.
- The Posable Leaves: Next, you build the leaves separately. By using hinge pieces to attach the wide green plates to the stem, you can angle and pose the leaves to your liking.
- The SNOT Technique Core: To create a realistic, rounded flower, the designers used a popular technique called SNOT (Studs Not On Top). You use a specialized central block with studs facing outward in all four directions.
- Layering the Petals: You snap the inner core pieces onto this block, and then meticulously layer the large, beautifully curved orange petals around the outside. This overlapping technique perfectly captures the intricate, unfurling layers of a real rose in full bloom! Finally, you attach both gorgeous flower heads to the branching stem
Mix & Match: Styling Your Orange Rose As a classic "Focal Flower," the Orange Rose is designed to draw the eye and serve as the anchor of your DIY bouquet.
Here are the best pairings from the BuildABouquet collection to create a stunning arrangement:
-
The Sunset Bouquet: For a warm, radiant, and incredibly cheerful display, pair your Orange Rose with the towering Multi-color Lupine and the bright Sunflower.
-
Harmonious Tones: Keep the color palette warm and cohesive by adding a few stems of Hypericum Berries.
-
Elegant & Soft: If you want the bold orange color to truly pop, surround the rose with the soft, delicate white details of the Queen Anne's Lace.
