Welcome back to Behind the Build! In this blog series, we take you into the fascinating world of our botanical building sets. We explore our favourite brick flowers one by one: from their symbolic meaning to the build process and the best styling tips for your interior.

In this edition, we are looking at a true classic known for its elegant, soothing aesthetic: Lavender. Whether you associate it with a traditional British cottage garden or the sun-drenched fields of the French countryside, this delicate purple flower brings an immediate sense of calm to any space. And the best part? This brick version provides all the visual charm without ever losing its colour or dropping its blooms!

The Inspiration: Serenity, Purity, and Grace For centuries, lavender has been universally cherished for its calming properties. Symbolically, the flower represents serenity, purity, devotion, and grace.

Because of its association with relaxation and healing, gifting a botanical brick Lavender set is a wonderful way to tell someone to take a deep breath and treat themselves to a moment of peace. It is the perfect desk companion for a busy home office or a thoughtful addition to a bedside table.

The Build Experience: Mindful Stacking Looking at the instruction manual, building the Lavender is a highly therapeutic and rhythmic experience. Because of the flower's natural geometry, this set relies heavily on a satisfying, repetitive stacking technique. Here is what you can expect when you sit down to build:

  • The Sturdy Core: You begin by assembling the base of the long green stem, attaching the first set of small, angled green leaves to anchor the plant.

  • The First Floral Tier: To recreate lavender's iconic clustered look, you use a specialised central hub piece. Onto this core, you meticulously clip multiple small, rounded purple pieces to create a dense 360-degree ring of blooms.

  • Rhythmic Layering: The magic of this build lies in the stacking. You alternate between building tiers of delicate green foliage and dense rings of vibrant purple flowers.

  • The Tapered Top: As you reach the top of the stem, the structural pieces become smaller, allowing you to perfectly recreate the elegant, tapered point that makes lavender so instantly recognisable.

Mix & Match: Styling Your Lavender Lavender is one of the most versatile "Filler Flowers" in our collection. Its tall, slender profile makes it an incredible supporting piece that adds height and texture to your arrangement. As noted on our design sheet, lavender's vibrant purple blooms pair best with white, pastel pink, or soft green tones.

Here are some beautiful, colour-coordinated ways to style it:

  • Crisp & Classic White: Pair your Lavender with the White Daisy or Queen Anne's Lace. The crisp, clean white petals allow the vibrant purple to truly pop, resulting in a fresh, airy, and traditional cottage garden aesthetic.

  • The Soft Pastel Palette: For a highly romantic and soothing bouquet, combine the Lavender with the Blush Tulip. The gentle transition between the soft pink petals and the light purple lavender spikes creates a calming, harmonious display that is perfect for a bedroom or a quiet reading nook.

  • Lush Greenery: Lean into the "soft green tones" recommendation by mixing your Lavender stems with ample green foliage, leafy branches, or ferns. This creates a highly natural, freshly foraged look, allowing the structured purple spikes to stand out beautifully against a sea of green.

  • The Purple Meadow: If you love purple, combine the Lavender with the Yellow & Purple Tulip. While the tulip provides a matching regal purple, the tall, textured spikes of the lavender create a gorgeous contrast in shape against the smooth, round tulip petals.
